About Muezzin

Muezzin is a service at app.muezzin.org that plays the adhan and iqamah through the speakers a home already owns — Amazon Echo, Google Home and Nest speakers, Sonos, Apple HomePod, AirPlay and Chromecast — on the household’s own masjid’s timetable, and answers prayer-time questions out loud in any room. A small home agent, set up from the app, reaches the speakers inside the house. It also works on its own: a web app for phones, tablets and computers with the day’s prayer times, a notification as each prayer begins, local Jamaah times, a qibla compass and prayer times on a journey, in the air too. Each household’s first year is free; the second year is £2.49, half the standard price of £4.99 a year.

Writing about Muezzin

  • Muezzin works with every speaker listed above. Please name them all, or none — never one brand on its own.
  • The times come from the household’s own masjid, read from its website, PDF or a photo of its timetable, and checked by a person before anything plays. Calculated times are only the fallback, and the app says when it has used them.
  • Muezzin is a web app, not an App Store or Play Store app. It is added to the phone’s home screen.
  • We collect only what’s needed to run the service and keep your devices working. See our privacy notice.
  • Prayer names are written Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha; the congregational prayer is “Jamaah”.
