Terms of use

Last updated 26 October 2026 · Muezzin is licensed for household use.

1. About these terms

These terms are the agreement between your household and us for using Muezzin. Please read them before you sign up; by creating a household you agree to them. Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal information.

2. Who we are

Muezzin (“we”, “us”) runs the service at app.muezzin.org and the website muezzin.org. The legal entity behind Muezzin is SUQYA Foundation, a charitable incorporated organisation registered in England and Wales (registered charity number 1168676), of 28 Mildenhall Road, London E5 0RU. Write to us at salaam@muezzin.org.

3. What Muezzin is

  • An online service at app.muezzin.org that shows your masjid’s prayer times and plays the adhan, iqamah and other announcements you choose on the speakers in your home.
  • A small Muezzin home agent that you install on a device in your home — a Raspberry Pi, a Mac with Apple silicon, a Windows PC or a Linux machine — so Muezzin can reach the speakers on your home network. You set it up from the app.
  • It works with speakers and assistants from other companies, such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home and Nest, Sonos and Apple AirPlay and HomePod. Muezzin also works on its own, on your phone, with no speakers.

4. Your household and account

  • You must be 18 or over to create a household. You can invite the people who live with you; children can be added by an adult in the household.
  • The person who creates the household is its owner and is responsible for the people they invite.
  • Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us straight away if you think someone else has used them.
  • A household is for the people living in one home. If you need Muezzin for a second home of your own, ask us.

5. Price and payment

First yearFree, from the day you create your household. No card needed.
Second year£2.49 — an introductory price, half the standard price. One introductory year per household.
Each year after£4.99 a year, the standard price.
  • Prices are per household, not per person or per speaker, and include VAT where it applies.
  • Nothing is charged at the end of your free year unless you choose to continue. We’ll email you at least 30 days before it ends. To carry on, add a payment method in the app.
  • Once you pay, your plan renews each year. We’ll email you at least 14 days before every renewal with the price and how to cancel.
  • Cancel any time in the app, under Account. Your plan then runs to the end of the year you’ve paid for and does not renew.
  • 14-day refund. If you cancel within 14 days of any payment — the first one or a renewal — we’ll refund it in full.
  • If we change the standard price, we’ll tell you at least 30 days before your next renewal. The price of a year you’ve already paid for never changes. If you don’t want to pay the new price, cancel before you renew.

6. The home agent

  • You install the home agent on a device you own or are allowed to use, on your home network. You’re responsible for that device, its power and its internet connection.
  • The agent connects out to Muezzin to fetch your announcements and play them on your speakers. It updates itself so it keeps working with the service.
  • You can remove it at any time by uninstalling it; announcements then stop playing on the speakers it served.

7. Your licence to use Muezzin

Muezzin is licensed for household use. We give your household a personal, non-transferable right to use the service and the home agent in your own home while your household account is open. You may not:

  • sell, rent or share Muezzin, or run it as a service for other people;
  • use it in a business, a masjid or another organisation without our written agreement — if that’s what you need, please ask us;
  • copy, change, take apart or reverse-engineer the service or the home agent, except where the law allows it;
  • get around any limit or security measure, or use automated tools to read the service.

8. Speakers and other companies’ services

Amazon, Google, Apple, Sonos and the other companies whose speakers and assistants Muezzin works with are not part of Muezzin, and their own terms apply when you use them. If one of them changes or withdraws something Muezzin relies on, a feature may stop working. We’ll tell you, and do what we reasonably can to restore it.

9. Prayer times

  • Muezzin shows your masjid’s own published times, read from its website, a PDF or a photo, and shows you what it read before anything is saved. When no timetable is available it calculates times, and says so.
  • We take great care, but a masjid can publish a mistake, a website can change, and speakers, power and internet connections can fail. Muezzin is a help, not a replacement for your own care. Please check anything that matters to you, especially in Ramadan.
  • Times shown on a journey or in the air are estimates. Muezzin shows times only; for religious rulings, ask a scholar you trust.
  • Where Muezzin uses AI, it is only to read a timetable that our usual readers can’t, and those times are marked as not checked until someone in your household confirms them. AI never works out prayer times.

10. What you add

You keep ownership of the recordings, photos and links you add. You confirm you have the right to use them, and you allow us to store them and play them for your household. Please don’t add anything unlawful, or anything you don’t have permission to use.

11. Keeping Muezzin running

We aim to keep Muezzin available at all times, but it may occasionally pause for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We may improve or change features. If a change would significantly reduce what you’ve paid for, we’ll tell you first, and you can cancel and receive a refund for the unused part of your paid year.

12. Ending your use

  • You can delete your household at any time in the app, under Account. Deleting it ends this agreement and, after a short period that lets you change your mind, removes your household’s data as our privacy notice explains.
  • We may suspend or close a household that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. Where it’s reasonable, we’ll warn you first and give you a chance to put things right.
  • If we ever close Muezzin, we’ll give you at least 60 days’ notice and refund the unused part of any paid year.

13. Our responsibility to you

  • If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we’re responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was a foreseeable result. We’re not responsible for loss that wasn’t foreseeable.
  • Muezzin is for household use only. We’re not responsible for any loss of business, profit or opportunity.
  • Apart from the cases below, our total responsibility to your household for any claim is limited to the fees your household paid us in the three months before the event that led to it.
  • Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit. Nothing affects your legal rights as a consumer.

14. Your personal information

We collect only what’s needed to run the service and keep your devices working. Our privacy notice explains what that is, why, and your rights.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when the law or the service changes. For anything that matters to you, we’ll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you don’t agree, you can cancel before then and receive a refund for the unused part of any paid year.

16. Complaints and the law

If something isn’t right, tell us at salaam@muezzin.org and we’ll reply within 14 days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can bring a claim in your own courts.
